Learn more about Château Angélus
Family-owned for over two centuries
The de Boüard family has been making wine at Angélus since 1782. Today, the estate is led by Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, the eighth generation, who assumed leadership in 2012 from her father, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, and uncle, Jean-Bernard Grenié. Stéphanie continues the family’s legacy while guiding Angélus into a new era—emphasising sustainability, technical refinement, and global prestige.
Vineyard location and grape varieties
Located in the centre-west of the St Emilion appellation, less than one kilometre from the famous medieval steeple, Angélus’s 39 hectares benefit from an ideal south-facing slope. Cabernet Franc is planted lower on the slope, where sandy, warm soils help the variety thrive. Merlot dominates the upper parcels, flourishing in limestone-rich clay, giving the wines structure, depth, and ageability. This varied terroir, combined with the estate’s precise vineyard management, contributes to the distinctively rich and aromatic style of Angélus.
