Provenance and authentication
We were the first merchant in the UK to employ our own authentication expert. Philip Moulin and his team see every lot before it reaches the catalogue, establishing condition, identifying counterfeits and confirming provenance.
Lots are photographed in ultra high-definition so you can read the condition and fill notes for yourself, and stay in our temperature-regulated, humidity-controlled warehouse, insured at replacement value, until they sell.
Why buy and sell wine at auction with us
We are an auction house built on a wine merchant, and have been buying and selling fine wine since 1698. Every lot is valued and catalogued by the same specialists who taste and buy for our shelves, checked in our own bonded warehouse, and offered to a network of collectors around the world, with the option to buy, sell, store and insure without the wine ever leaving our care.
How our auctions work
Bidding takes place on our auction site, which needs its own account, separate from your bbr.com account, though you can use the same email address. Lots close thirty seconds apart, and a late bid extends that lot by up to two minutes.
Winning bids carry a 20% buyer's premium. We invoice within three business days of the sale closing, and payment is due within five business days of that invoice. Your wine then stays in our bonded warehouse unless you ask us to deliver it, which is free to any UK residential address. Everything else is answered in the questions below.
