The story of Château de Fieuzal stretches back to the earliest days of winemaking in Bordeaux’s Graves region. Nestled in Pessac-Léognan, the estate lies on an exceptional gravel outcrop, prized for its natural drainage and ability to retain warmth — conditions that have long defined the area’s most expressive wines. Though celebrated for its crystalline white wines, Château de Fieuzal’s reds are equally compelling. In 1959, both were recognised with the coveted Graves Grand Cru Classé status, a mark of enduring quality and distinction.
Named after the Fieuzal family, who owned the property until 1851, the estate today encompasses 75 hectares, with 10 dedicated to white varieties. Since acquiring Fieuzal, Brenda and Lochlann Quinn have revitalised its winemaking philosophy, combining deep respect for tradition with a progressive approach. Their appointment of winemaker Stephen Carrier in 2007 marked a turning point: together with renowned consultant Hubert de Bouärd of Château Angélus, they have elevated the estate’s reputation both in Bordeaux and beyond.
The vines at Château de Fieuzal are approximately 30 years old and are planted at a density of 9,000 per hectare. Vineyard work is meticulous and sustainable, with minimal chemical intervention and a strong emphasis on traditional methods. Grapes are harvested and sorted twice by hand to ensure only the finest fruit reaches the cellar. Each parcel is vinified separately, allowing the estate to express the nuanced character of its terroir with remarkable clarity. Recent investments, including a state-of-the-art cellar inaugurated in 2011, reflect Fieuzal’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.
