2024 Caillou Blanc, Château Talbot, Bordeaux

Description

83% Sauvignon Blanc; 17% Sémillon.

Jean-Michel Laporte and his team have produced another impressive Caillou Blanc this year. Aged in 30% new oak and benefiting from increased bâtonnage, the wine displays a beautifully rounded texture on the palate, balanced by a firm, refreshing acidity. Bright notes of citrus and pear are layered with subtle hints of verbena. This well-crafted wine deserves a place at the dinner table.

Critics reviews

Jane Anson 88/100
Baking spices, cloves, cumin, preserved lemon, white pear, charming if soft on the finish.

The 2024 Caillou Blanc Talbot was matured in 30% new oak and contains more Sauvignon Blanc this year (83%) due to a new parcel. It has a fresh nose with red apple, tangerine and light chamomile scents that unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced with an attractive, slightly waxy texture and a fine bead of acidity, with a dash of lemongrass emerging on the finish. This should constitute fine early drinking.

Notes of pear, boxwood, lemongrass and spring flowers preface the 2024 Caillou Blanc de Talbot, a medium-bodied, lively and taut wine with tangy acids. It concludes with a somewhat short finish. This is a blend of 83% Sauvignon Blanc and 17% Sémillon, matured in 30% new oak.
