2020 Alexandre Bain, Mademoiselle M, Vin de France

Description

Named after his daughter who was born just as the harvest began for this wine, Mademoiselle M is made from vines grown in richer and more structured Kimmeridgian-limestone soils. The nose is fat and buttery, with a burst of bruised apple, candied lemon peel, lychee and a hint of honey.

Aged over a total of 36 months (with 18 in wooden barrels), this has a sumptuous texture that balances the overwhelming minerality from the terroir. Probably my favourite from Alexandre, the balance of exotic fruit and a rich umami flavour is unlike anything I’ve had before. The finish lengthens after every sip culminating in a crisp, orchard fruit finale.
