Description

Two of the three parcels here are on the appellation’s emblematic pink granite (Gros Vosges and Les Hantes), the third on deeper clay (Verre Mann). There’s 20% whole-bunch; the wine is vinified in 600-litre casks and cuve. The vines are over 50 years old and gobelet-trained. This has attractive grainy spice around its fresh blackberry fruit.

Mid purple. There is a touch of bovril on the nose, and I feel that I am not completely understanding this wine, which has a thick, rich texture with a dry finish. Slight boiled raspberry fruit. Mostly grown on sandier soils, so the fruit may have dried out more than some cuvées.

The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes has a very intense creme de cassis-scented bouquet, quite ravishing and pure. The palate is sweet and candied, and the black cherries and cassis fruit have a lightly spiced finish. This is a fine Moulin-à-Vent, though shaded by Boillot's single-vineyard bottlings.
