Description
Brimming with fabulously juicy, fresh raspberries and red cherries, the nose of the Pegaso Granito is lifted and open. The palate, by contrast, has a dark, mineral aspect to its flavours at this stage, combining with a sense of pure rock and granitic restraint. This is just so fine; the tannins are powdery yet have grip which provides structure, and the wine has an arrow-like precision. A savoury, umami note lingers on the otherwise river-pebble-fresh finish. This is so impressive.

The 2019 Pegaso Granito ripened thoroughly and has 15% alcohol, a little higher than the Pegaso Pizarra from slate soils, but keeping a low pH of 3.35. The grapes from the vines at 800 metres in altitude fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500- and 600-litre French oak barrels for 18 months. It feels like this wine behaves better in less warm years, when it ripens slowly. This is tasty and effervescent, with grainy granite tannins.
