Description

From four old-vine parcels surrounding the eponymous windmill, this is a delicious expression of Gamay whole-bunch fermented, with very gentle extraction, then raised in a large oak foudre. The result is a gorgeous red-cherry-scented wine, with crunchy fruit and fine, granitic tannins. Beautiful.

Dense purple with a spicy nose, richer fruit than expected on the palate, and some reduction. This is really intense, with a huge future ahead of it. It has a long, fine finish with just the right acidity.

This is normally vinified with 100% whole clusters.

There is an abundance of floral and pepper wisps infusing the earthy, ripe and very spicy dark berries scents. There is fine density to the plum, caressing and sappy medium-weight flavours that possess impressive depth and persistence on the wonderfully textured, long and balanced finale. This fine effort will need at least a few years to soften what are currently firm tannins.

Around 70 million litres of Beaujolais are produced each year, or two-and-a-half times the entire wine production of the rest of Burgundy. More than half of this is sold as Beaujolais Nouveau, although an Aladdin's trove of gloriously satisfying wines exist amongst the 10 named village crus that occupy a 15-mile strip of granite hills to the north.
