What is an octave cask?
An octave is one-eighth the size of a traditional whisky butt, and holds just 62 litres. The small size means the liquid takes on the essence of the cask much more quickly, leading to an intense and rich flavour.
Each octave produces up to 90 bottles of finished spirit, making this an accessible way to buy an entire – and unique – cask.
How we created these
As one of the oldest independent bottlers in the UK, Berry Bros. & Rudd has access to a vast selection of unique single malt whiskies and rums from iconic distilleries. Our experience means we can pair these spirits with their perfect octave cask, previously used to hold fortified wines such as Moscatel, Fino or Oloroso.
The entire process is overseen by our specialists; from selecting the liquids filled into the octaves to tasting the spirit as it evolves in cask to determine the perfect moment for bottling. The result is a truly unique spirits; these are distinctively flavoured and bottled at the perfect stage of maturity.
