Isole e Olena

For over four decades, Paolo De Marchi transformed Isole e Olena into one of Tuscany’s most admired wine estates. Combining his Piedmontese heritage with a deep understanding of Chianti Classico, Paolo elevated quality through meticulous vineyard work and innovative winemaking. Today, under the ownership of the EPI group—also custodians of the legendary Biondi-Santi—the estate continues to craft wines of exceptional purity, balance, and longevity.

The Cepparello revolution

The wines have Cepparello at their head, a barrique-aged Sangiovese classified as an IGT - because at the time of its creation in the 1980s a wine comprising 100% Sangiovese could not legally be labelled as Chianti. There is a Chianti Classico and a Vin Santo, as well as some excellent wines from the Collezione de Marchi label, including a Syrah called Eremo, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay.

A diverse and distinguished range

While Cepparello remains the flagship, Isole e Olena’s range reflects the estate’s versatility and commitment to excellence. The Chianti Classico is a refined, terroir-driven expression of the region, while the estate’s Vin Santo offers a sumptuous, amber-hued dessert wine of extraordinary complexity. Under the Collezione De Marchi label, Paolo introduced international varieties to the Tuscan landscape, crafting a richly textured Syrah named Eremo, a structured yet elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, and a crisp, barrel-fermented Chardonnay. Together, these wines demonstrate the estate’s mastery of native and international grapes, and its enduring influence on the Tuscan wine scene.
