2025 Mas de Daumas Gassac, Blanc, St Guilhem-le-Désert Cité d'Aniane, Languedoc-Roussillon

Description

Founded in the 1970s by Aimé and Véronique Guibert, Mas de Daumas Gassac transformed the reputation of the Languedoc, demonstrating that world-class wines could be produced in a region once dominated by bulk production. Often referred to as the “Grand Cru of the Midi,” the estate is a benchmark of quality in southern France.

What sets Mas de Daumas Gassac apart is the incredible care and diversity in its vineyards, comprising 70 individual plots nestled within 4,000 hectares of surrounding forest, which helps improve soil health and water retention. The valley is dominated by a rare, powder-fine red glacial soil, surprisingly reminiscent of that found in the prime areas of Burgundy.

Nowadays, the Guibert family is adopting a more scientific approach to vineyard planting, matching their mosaic of soil types, altitudes, and aspects with the most suitable varieties. The Guibert brothers work alongside winemaker Benjamin d'Anglade, who has previously honed his craft at the likes of Ch. Latour, Ch. Montrose and Domaine Armand Rousseau. Head winemaker Samuel Guibert describes the vin rouge as a “Bordeaux-based blend made in a Burgundian style from a southern climate”, while the whites are consistently expressive, complex, and highly food-friendly.

About this wine

Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert

Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert

Tucked into the rugged hills north of Montpellier, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is one of Languedoc’s most captivating IGPs. Named after a UNESCO-listed medieval village, this region seamlessly blends ancient heritage with a vibrant winemaking culture. Its wines—fresh, aromatic, and deeply expressive—reflect the interplay of limestone soils, Mediterranean sunshine, and cooling breezes from the Cévennes.
