The 2024 Cabernet Franc Stellenbosch comes from granite soils, the vines planted in 2024, fully de-stemmed and matured in 2,000-litre Austrian oak. It has a lighter bouquet than the three preceding Syrahs (as expected), with pencil box and tobacco-tinged black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little austere and maybe just a little dry on the finish. I would still just blend it with a dollop of Merlot!

From a Bottelary vineyard planted in 2004. Aromatics of red and black berries, floral perfume, and subtle notes of earth, crushed leaves and spice. The palate is light and sappy, showing pure fruit expression, bright acidity and fine tannins. Harmonious and well judged, with nothing out of place.
