Tasting note

48% Merlot; 41% Cabernet Sauvignon; 6% Petit Verdot; 5% Cabernet Franc.

This is a very pretty Ormes de Pez, quite lightly structured, especially for a St Estèphe. The wine is carried by the charm of its pure, direct and fragrant bouquet. The accent is primarily on blackberry and blueberry, with light, dusty notes of cocoa and Mediterranean herb infused throughout. The palate is poised rather than assertive, but there is plenty of medium-term pleasure on offer here. The finish has a good amount of depth, suggesting that there will be more to come after its time in barrel.

Critics reviews

Jane Anson 89/100
Bright and vivid blue fruit character, high in acidity but delivered as juice and lift, this has lovely cocoa bean and smoked earth notes as it builds. A classically balanced if austere Ormes. 32hl/h yields, 3.61 pH. 45% new oak for ageing.

Neal Martin 90-92/100

The 2024 Ormes de Pez has a crisp, tensile bouquet with black olive tapenade infusing black fruit, fine delineation and nicely integrated oak. The medium-bodied palate showcases grainy tannins and a core of black fruit laced with graphite and tobacco, leading to a slightly smudged finish that lacks the complexity of the 2022. Still, this is a decent Saint-Estèphe.

Antonio Galloni 90-92/100

The 2024 Ormes de Pez is a very pretty, expressive Saint-Estèphe. Strong floral, savory and earthy elements abound. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, cedar and new leather lend notable punch. This is a very fine vintage for Ormes de Pez. Tasted two times.

48% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.

Lively and spicy on the nose. Generous, mouth-filling fruit on attack, the tannins firm behind. Plenty of substance. Should make attractive drinking.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Jumps from the glass with spritely notes of crushed blackberries and raspberries, plus hints of fruit cake, hoisin, and tobacco leaf. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft and lightly chewy with just enough berry preserves flavors and a lifted finish.

Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2024 Château Ormes De Pez offers solid aromatics of smoke red and black fruits, graphite, tobacco, and freshly sharpened pencils. I like its overall texture, it's medium-bodied, has ripe tannins, and solid length on the finish.

Shuai Zekun 91-92/100
A very fruity red this year, showing sweet berries on the nose. Medium-bodied with firm tannins. Some hawthorn fruit. This delivers more directness than nuance. Juicy, medium-long finish. 48% merlot, 41% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot, 5% cabernet franc.

About this wine

Saint-Estèphe

Saint-Estèphe

Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the most important communes of the Médoc, bordering Pauillac on its southernmost border, with only a gully and stream separating it from Ch. Lafite Rothschild. The wines can appear austere in youth, but the best typically display good depth of colour, pronounced acidity and tannins in youth, and are exceptionally long-lived. At their best, they are the equal of almost any Bordeaux.
