Description

This is from quite a rainy vintage, especially around the harvest. Mildew was a constant threat and challenge, which Mario handled by cutting out any berries as soon as the first signs appeared; it was a huge amount of work but it meant he was able to avoid spraying. As usual, this is from a single vineyard in Sinio, on the same white soils as nearby Serralunga. The wine feels alive and vibrant – “a bit wild,” says Mario. It’s a very pure wine, not powerful but neat and fresh.

Dolcetto d’Alba

Dolcetto d'Alba is a DOC zone producing wines exclusively from the Dolcetto grape. Dolcetto is an important Piedmontese variety that’s suited to the calcareous tufa soils common to Barbaresco. The antithesis of Nebbiolo, it ripens a month earlier, producing wines that are low in acid yet high in tannins. Dolcetto d’Alba is the grape’s most highly-regarded incarnation and makes the perfect antipasti wine.
