Jancis Robinson MW 17/20

Grenache grown on red clay, as opposed to the limestone of Cucugnan, 20 minutes north-west by car (or one hour by tractor). Unusually high (500 m) for Grenache and planted by the late Peter Sichel himself who must have had great faith in warming summers. Aged in 15-hl foudre.

Much deeper crimson than Montanha and a completely different style. Rich, sweet, strawberry compote. Lots of density and sweetness. A serious Grenache with a future. A little more oak and more structured than the Montanha bottling. A bit of tannin too. Persistent. (JR)
