Description
The grapes were picked from two parcels just below Meursault. A touch of that village’s richness adds a little weight to this lively yet focused wine. Squeezes of lemon on the nose bring freshness, while a slow settling of 24 hours creates a texturally satisfying mouthfeel. This is a hugely enjoyable introduction to Bitouzet-Prieur’s range of first-class whites.

Critics reviews
The 2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay has a perfumed nose with hints of yellow plum, a signature trait of the vintage. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with a lovely, slightly creamy texture and hints of praline on the finish. This is a very able Bourgogne Blanc.
“We started picking on September 2 with the whites and finished on September 10,” François Bitouzet-Prieur tells me at the winery on the industrial estate outside Meursault, where you will find Henri Boillot and Vincent Girardin. “The malolactic was late for the reds,” he tells me, “…the Volnay Cailleret has not yet been completed. The reds are fully destemmed, and we finished racking them last week. They will be bottled in late February or early March. The alcohol levels are between 12.5% to 13.0% for the whites and 12.8% to 13.4% for the reds.”
Drink 2025 - 2030
Pale lemon colour, not much in evidence yet on the nose, the fruit builds the further back you go on the palate, to display good energy right at the back, enough acidity to infuse the white fruit with a light oaky element.

About this wine
Bourgogne
In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
