2023 Riesling, Trocken, Ried, Steinriegl, Prager, Wachau, Austria

Description

The Riesling Steinriegel comes from the northern side of the valley, where there is a lot more chalk, and the Steinriegel itself has a while silicate marble content, resulting in a texture you wouldn’t be surprised to find from Sancerre. While not technically a Federspiel this year, due to the stormy August and warm harvest, this is still incredibly fresh and straightforward. The nose has aromas of delicate stone fruit and freshly-squeezed lime, with hints of honeysuckle that carry through to the palate. Energetic and incredibly zippy, with flavours of green apple and river pebbles, this is a delight to drink now-2032.

Critics reviews

Stuart Pigott 92/100
Very crisp and vibrant, with plenty of lime and tart nectarine fruit, this is very refreshing and has good depth on the medium-bodied palate. An amazing result when you think that this vineyard was hit by hail only weeks before the harvest. Sustainable. Drink now. Screw cap.

Light, slightly floral nose and strong lemon-cream sensations. Notable acidity followed by impressive persistence. Certainly fuller bodied than any Federspiel but no less refreshing.
