Description

Dominique’s Pernand-Vergelesses comes from bought-in grapes; there were seven barrels produced this year, of which one was new. It is easy to see why Dominique is such a big fan of this wine: the cool location adds a mineral restraint to the creamy fruit. The lingering finish gives the wine plenty of salinity and grip.

The source for these grapes, also picked on 10th September, is undergoing organic certification. Pale lemon and lime. A fresh and racy fruit on the nose, plenty of energy here, no sign of excess warmth. A fraction of gunflint, better acidity, “it should make the tongue clack” says Dominique and it does. A fine long finish with ripe limes alongside the white fruit. Excellent length.

Pernand-Vergelesses is a beautiful village tucked away behind the hill of Corton, and an excellent source for fine Burgundy at a relatively affordable price. Jadot have registered their own name, Le Clos de la Croix de Pierre, in a vineyard that faces the mighty hill. The lower part of the slope is an excellent site for Pinot Noir, while whites are grown on lighter soils higher up.
