The 2023 Volnay Le Ronceret 1er Cru is definitely a step up from the Ez Blanches. The 50% whole bunches impart light peppery scents, ample fruit concentration and wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine acidity. Again, it is Pommard-like in style, with a strict, black pepper and graphite-tinged finish. It's not bad at all, though the Monthélie has a touch more charm.
