Critics reviews

Matt Walls 95/100
This is reductive for now, but there's plenty of time to put that right. Powerful, earthy, ripe style that's nonetheless dry and savoury. The alcohol is surprisingly warming, but this is one Hermitage that does have that regal demeanour this year: very long, with bold, muscular, sinuous tannins. Very promising. Not overly oaked, just really packed full of ripe fruit tannin. Grown on the easternmost terroirs of Hermitage, all destemmed and aged for 12 months in barrel, 15% new.

Mainly Les Murets and Les Greffieux. Cask sample.

Firm, meaty, even slightly steely. Touch of reduction as well. Layered fruit on the palate. Tannins smooth and rounded on attack, with grip and persistence on the finish. Shows potential.

About this wine

Hermitage

Hermitage

The most famous of all the northern Rhône appellations, its 120 hectares produce tiny quantities of very long-lived reds. The vines were grown in Roman times, although local folklore claims their origins to be 600 years earlier. The wines are powerful, with a deep colour and firm tannins, and the potential to age for many decades. The best Hermitage is produced from several climats blended together.
