Description

From 2024, the vineyards around Comblanchien, where this comes from, will be all that remains of the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation; those around Brochon will be promoted to Fixin. This comes from two parcels across 0.25 hectares, one with 40-year-old vines and the other 15-20 years old. The wine starts its ageing in barrel, finishing foudres. There is a dark and zesty cassis note on the bouquet, but the palate has textured, grainy tannins that lift and elevate the wine.

From Comblanchien. Mid ruby purple, with a light reduction. Elevage foudre and then bottled in August. Starts fine and elegant then gains stuffing further back, with good grip at the finish. The heady aromatics which denote the Côte de Nuits are readily apparent, and a fine juicy cherry and strawberry fruit finish.

This Burgundian appellation includes wines from a small number of villages, mostly in the extreme north and south of the Côte de Nuits: Fixin and Brochon in the north, Comblanchien, Corgoloin and Prissey to the south. The wines are usually red and are often good value. Hautes-Côtes de Nuits is also mostly red and is produced in the hinterland to the south-west of Nuits-St Georges.
