2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Simon Colin, Burgundy

Description

The fruit comes from 1.2 hectares of vines. This is very pretty and pure, with apples and pears and generous floral character. Simon uses a mixture of vessels, including 228-litre pièces, 350-litre barrels and a concrete egg; there is 20% new oak overall. There is a little smokiness to it and some oak spice, but nice fruit throughout. It suddenly gets very serious at the end, making for a deceptively complex Bourgogne with freshness and power.
