2023 Bourgogne Blanc, Etienne Sauzet

Description

The 2023 Bourgogne Blanc has a crisp and quite nuanced bouquet of Granny Smith and light fresh pear scents. This is quite mineral-driven, considering it is a mere regional white. The palate is well-balanced and not complex. It has commendable weight, plenty of malic flavours and a dash of white pepper and dill on the finish.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 87-89/100

Foudres, 600 litre barrels, older 228s and 10% in tank.

A lime tint to the colour, while the nose is clearly riper than the Aligoté. A little more flesh on the palate but this is more marked by its biodynamic purity. Plenty of energy at the back of the palate, and fine persistence. Baby Puligny, almost. Includes some purchases.

About this wine

Bourgogne

Bourgogne

In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
