Description

This is from two plots: Les Closeaux, close to Meursault; and Nampoillon, which is the last vineyard before St Romain. This wine retains a sense of thrilling freshness even in the warmest years, and in 2023 there is more than a hint of a hillside Meursault to it. Ripe lemon and lime fruit, a little sophisticated reduction and a tight, tense finish mark this out as a class act.

Jasper Morris MW 88-90/100
Lemon and lime colour, a very pleasing light reductive toastiness. The vintage has given an extra dimension to the fruit without losing the Fichet style of austere minerality. The finish is more perfumed than usual to complete a lovely wine.

Auxey-Duresses

A small village in a side valley off the Côte de Beaune, with a slightly cooler local climate making for a more austere style of Burgundy. Nonetheless this can be an excellent source of relatively inexpensive wine in warmer years, or from top producers. At the moment production is about 75:25 red to white. The reds can age well, while the whites can have a most attractive minerality.
