Description

This has a pretty nose of blossom and white flowers, with the lightest touch of ripe stone fruit. This aromatic elegance is matched by the palate, which is rich and intense, with pure notes of juicy apricot, pineapple and citrus fruits, carrying a hint of sweetness. There is a creaminess here; it is delightfully mouthcoating, but with a delicious streak of acidity and a firm and steely mineral backbone that keeps it feeling remarkably fresh. Truly mouthwatering and a fantastic length, it just goes on and on. Hold if you can, this is a hugely complex wine that will develop beautifully in bottle.

Has that touch of white mushroom that I found on the Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett, as well as the touch of smokiness. Cool, vibrant, with a fine acid tension to the very end, so that the sweetness is disguised. Needs bottle age to become more complex.

The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is concentrated and very intense on the fruit-driven, deep and spicy nose. The wine is very elegant and refined on the dense and seriously structured, salivating palate that is a promise for the future and endlessly salty in the present. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 08 24 in January 2025.

The 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese opens with a serene, stony, salty slaty breeze. The palate is exquisitely fine and very bright, luminous even, soaring upward as it reaches down into the slate, embodying the total elegance of the site. Slenderness and serenity are exemplary.
