Description

This is another iconic De Montille bottling. It comes from the lower part of Les Rugiens; this site is perhaps Pommard’s most prestigious, occasionally drawing “Grand Cru” comparisons. The domaine has two parcels here, a total of one hectare. The vines range in age from 10 to 50 years old. Brian uses two-thirds whole bunches here, and the wine sees around 40% new oak. This has structure and spicy dark cherry fruit, though it is very fine; there is real elegance here despite it all.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 93-96/100
100% whole bunch vinification. Dense purple with a ruby rim. The bouquet has an intensity of dark but fresh raspberry fruit, in a different register of intensity. As always with Rugiens-Bas, the fruit develops a depth not seen elsewhere in Pommard. Perfectly integrated tannins, enough acidity, a very complete wine with excellent length.
