2023 St Aubin, En Remilly, 1er Cru, Domaine de Montille, Burgundy

Description

En Remilly is arguably St Aubin’s best vineyard, though it’s not homogenous. The upper section can suffer in warm vintages, but De Montille’s vines are lower down, on deeper soil. This plot is always picked early on to avoid any tropical notes. It shows fresh lemon and lime and chalky minerality. In the mouth, it is taut and tight with a nice savoury edge and bright citrussy acidity along with some lees-derived complexity.

Jasper Morris MW 91-93/100
50 barrels have been made from 1.8ha. Their plot avoids hydric stress, I am told. Pale fresh colour, plenty of clean fruit on the nose, nothing roasted. Pure white fruit with generosity. A steely core with a lot more fruit in reserve. Very good.
