2023 Volnay, En Champans, 1er Cru, Domaine de Montille, Burgundy

Description

De Montille has just over a hectare here in two different parcels. It is quite steep and sloping, with three different soil types: heavy clay the bottom, marl in the middle and sandy limestone at the top. This has one-third whole bunches and 30% new oak. There are pronounced aromas of cherries, violets and creamy oak spice. It is supple and silky in the mouth with structured tannins (typical of this vineyard) and a fresh, mineral finish.

Jasper Morris MW 92-95/100
50% whole bunch vinification. A lighter ruby purple. The fruit and floral characters combined beautifully on the nose. This dances across the palate, showing a little more barrel at the finish, but that is temporary. An excellent red berry fruit surges across the finish line.
