2023 Bourgogne Rouge, Terres de Famille, Domaine de la Vougeraie

Description

This is a much smaller cuvée this year; Sylvie had no space for the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits fruit, so it was sold off. The 2023 therefore comes from Volnay, Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, Brochon and Premeaux-Prissey. Everything is de-stemmed here, giving a crunchy and pretty wine packed with red berry fruit and finished off with a touch of sweet spice.

Critics reviews

Neal Martin 85/100

The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Terre de Famille excludes fruit from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits this year due to limited space. Bottled in July, it boasts pretty, slightly exotic red cherry and kirsch scents that maybe translate the heatwaves, though it's not overripe. The palate is sweet on the entry with red cherries and white pepper, gentle grip and a spicy finish. Fine.

In bottle since July. No Hautes Côtes de Beaune is included in it this year, just grapes from below Volnay, Premeaux, Gilly-les-Citeaux and Brochon. Medium red in colour, with a light, fragrant nose. Quite light on the palate too this year.

About this wine

Bourgogne

Bourgogne

In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
