2023 Riesling, Smaragd, Klaus, Prager, Wachau, Austria

Description

A stunning wine in 2023, Klaus is zippy and energetic on the palate with notes of lime, lemon blossom, and wet stones. While the acidity is super high and refreshing, there is a richness to the palate that ensures seamless balance. This is what great Rieslings look like bright and energetic, with a little structure and ripe citric fruit. This will drink fantastically well for decades, emphasising the ‘s’.

Critics reviews

Anne Krebiehl MW 96/100

The 2023 Riesling Ried Klaus Smaragd is dominated by amphibolite. The nose is creamy, slightly smoky, and here the tables are turned, the nose is creamier. The palate is tighter, with lovely citric concentration. This is bright, fresh, vivid, and so gorgeous. The 2023 is ripe but with beautiful tension and freshness. Dry)

Peter Moser 97/100

Medium green, yellow, and silver reflections. Delicately savoury white stone fruit nuances, delicate hints of ripe passionfruit, inviting fruit, mineral touch, multi-faceted bouquet. Powerful, full-bodied green apple, racy acidity, salty lime on the finish. It is still a little raspy, needs time, and definite certain ageing potential.

Peter Moser, (Jul 2024)
