2023 Bourgogne Blanc, Dominique Lafon, Burgundy

Description

Two-thirds of the blend comes from 30-year-old vines in Puligny-Montrachet’s Femelottes; the balance is from 70-year-old vines in Grandes Coutures, just beneath Meursault Limozin. This is a benchmark Bourgogne, made entirely in oak, with mostly 500-litre barrels to preserve freshness and avoid obvious wood character. Creamy, sophisticated and with impressive complexity, this is difficult to resist.

Critics reviews

Jancis Robinson MW 16.5/20

Crystalline pure and crisp and well sculpted. There are many village wines less exciting than this! Good value.

Jasper Morris MW 88-89/100

Dominique’s team picked Grand Couture on 2nd September and Femelottes on 4th, He now vinifies and ages the majority in demi-muids, trials indicating that the wines are fresher and with slightly reduced alcohol this way. Pale in colour with a faint lime tint, a most delicious floral nose, all with the elegance which Dominique champions, expressing itself beautifully across the palate. Not very high in acidity, but a friendly classic.

About this wine

Bourgogne

Bourgogne

In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
