Lafon’s Viré Clessé is a shining example of what can be achieved in this appellation with a modern and quality-focused approach. There are 19 plots in total, all harvested and vinified separately in a mix of foudre and large 600-litre barrels. The natural richness of Viré is tempered here, with a sizzling freshness underpinning the generous and spicy fruit and adding layers of complexity. There is weight and density here but with a cool restraint.
