2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils, Rhône

Description

Made from 80% Grenache Noir, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault and 5% Counoise, the nose of Stéphane’s Tradition cuvée is really expressive. There is a mineral lift amidst the strawberry fruit and a redcurrant edge with a touch of spice. This is such a well-made wine; it feels measured and elegant with powdery tannins. It is fine and fragrant en bouche with exotic Lebanese spices and a twist of grenadine on the long finish.

Critics reviews

Jeb Dunnuck 91-93/100

The 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape is based on 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah, 3% Cinsault, and 1% Counoise that’s brought up in a mix of foudre, old barrels, and concrete tanks. Its medium ruby hue is followed by a beautifully seamless, elegant 2023 that has both red and black fruits, medium to full body, ripe and polished yet present tannins, and some textbook garrigue and floral, Provençal spice-like aromas and flavours. You can’t go wrong with this one, and it will offer incredible pleasure over the coming 10-12+ years.

The full-bodied 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers detailed aromas of ripe strawberry, black cherry, crushed flowers and a hint of liquorice. Juicy, concentrated and elegant, the 2023 delivers sweet-tasting fruit balanced by vibrant freshness.

About this wine

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The largest and most important appellation in the southern Rhône, with more than 3,200 hectares of vineyards and over 80 growers, Châteauneuf-du-Pape produces more wine than the whole of the northern Rhône combined. The gloriously rich red wines, redolent of the heat and herbs of the south, are enhanced by the complexity which comes from blending several of the 14 permitted grape varieties including Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.
