Description

The name of this vineyard, Valle dei Salici (“Valley of the Willows”), is derived from the local historic tradition of using willow branches as twine to tie the vines. This is released a year behind its other Cars stablemates, allowing for extra time in bottle to soften the classically dry tannins of Freisa. Matteo takes a modern approach to his Freisa, making this completely delicious to enjoy now. The nose shows lively red berry fruit and rosehip, before a palate of wild strawberry and sweet cranberry. Despite its approachability, this will age remarkably well and become more Nebbiolo-like as it does.

Langhe

Langhe is an all-encompassing zone lying due south of Alba and the River Tanaro in the province of Cuneo. Barolo and Barbaresco both lie within its boundaries. Langhe is also the name of a regional DOC zone, which is used to classify wines made outside of the traditional Piemontese varietal scheme. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines from the region are, for example, classified as Langhe DOC.
