2022 Pouilly-Fuissé, Au Vignerais, 1er Cru, Olivier Merlin, Burgundy

Description

Although a large 18-hectare vineyard, the Merlin’s have just a 0.35-hectare parcel, high on the slope at 350m, and south-east facing. Their vines are neighbours to the Bret Brothers of Soufrandière. The altitude explains the wine’s slightly austere initial approach, but this soon evolves into something more finely etched and intellectual. A taut and well-tuned wine.

Critics reviews

Neal Martin 91-93/100

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Au Vignoret 1er Cru has a vibrant, spicy bouquet with grapefruit and lemongrass scents. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed entry, orange pith and Conference pear, though it needs a little more nerve on the finish.
