2022 Eisenstone, Greenock Shiraz SR801, Barossa Valley, Australia

Description

Greenock is a black fruited and engagingly savoury wine that captures the essence of black bramble fruit, aniseed, cacao, black olive, and even hints of smoky meats and earth. On the palate, the tautness is maintained by dry but structured tannins, which keep everything in check. This is quite tightly wound at this stage and while it may be early days, there is no doubt that Greenock has a cellar-worthy potential waiting to be discovered.

Critics reviews

Angus Hughson 93/100

The crowd-pleasing 2022 Shiraz Greenock SR801 opens with luscious aromas of dark cherry, cocoa and meat juices, with a lovely purity of sweet fruit. Dense drying tannins underpin a juicy, energetic style that is punchy and vibrant, with a mix of fruit pastille and cola flavors to finish. Five years of aging will see this wine hit its peak.

Huon Hooke 96/100

Glass staining deep, bright purple-red colour; licorice, graphite, blackberry aromas, intense, bright and bold; the palate is richly concentrated and very powerful, ample and plush with concentrated deep-set black fruits and a massive core of sweet ripe fruit, encased in a shell of supple but drying tannins that restore the balance into a long lingering aftertaste. Super impressive wine with a huge future
