Description

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé, Clos des Quarts, 1er Cru, by Château des Quarts is deep and intense from the century-old vines and with great finesse. The clos offers protection but also retains warmth. This is mitigated by the poor rocky and limestone soil alongside the vineyard’s easterly exposition. The palate is compact and precise; Olivier Merlin compares it (not for the first time) with great Chablis.

All made from very old vines, with some going back to 1917. Pale clear colour. A suggestion of intensity but very discreet at this stage. Marvellous backbone, extreme purity, entirely fresh white fruit, yet with a racy intensity that is exceptional.

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Château des Quarts 1er Cru Monopole has a delineated, precise bouquet with tension and energy. The palate is well balanced with a fine delineation, white peach and grapefruit mixed with crushed stone and a potent ginger note towards the refined finish.
