Description

Cavanna, which is effectively a monopole of Luigi Giordano, sits on south- and southwest-facing slopes formed of Tortonian soils (c. 10 million years old), enjoying similar conditions to some of the finest vineyards in Barolo. The 2022 vintage was warm, requiring pragmatism in the winery. Matteo therefore opted for a shorter maceration of 23 days and maturation of 18 months in oak, rather than the usual two years. This decision protected and amplified the fresh, vibrant, and ethereal signature within the wine. This is a beautiful example of Cavanna, with vivid, heady aromatics and a palate rife with raspberry, black tea, and mineral complexity.
