2022 Sancerre Blanc, Les Cris, Daniel Chotard, Loire

Description

Les Cris is a vineyard in Reigny with pebbly griottes soils. It is typically Simon’s most elegant and floral wine, and the sunny 2022 adds generosity and breadth, along with some peachy fruit. This is made mostly in acacia barrels, with around 15- to 20% in amphora, the latter to keep a little tension. The nose is lightly perfumed, while the palate offers sophisticated notes of white flowers, oyster shell and a touch of dairy. A wine with plenty of salinity and marine character, this finishes on a subtle acacia note.

Extra weight on the palate after the Coutones, floral perfume and crushed oyster-shell notes, this carries the extra alcohol weight beautifully and will age beautifully for a Sancerre.

The 2022 Les Cris is a well-held-together Sancerre despite being ripe and full of sweet peachy fruit. It's high in alcohol but holds it well in its supple frame. It is best for drinking in the first four years of life for its ripe, open style.

About this wine

Sancerre

Sancerre

Sancerre is a famous white Sauvignon Blanc appellation located on the left bank of the Loire. Its 14 communes are widely dispersed, covering nearly 3,000 hectares over vertiginous valleys at up to 350 metres above sea level, and three distinct soil types. As with nearby Pouilly-Fumé, an increasing number of single-vineyard wines are being raised in French oak, mostly 500-litre and demi-muids.
