Description

This blend has changed again and is now just Grand and Petits Poisots. Eight barrels were made, one being new. Kept on the lees for as long as possible, it has lovely texture and a creamy mid-palate, despite no whole bunches being used. With good weight for a village wine, there’s lots of energy before a pure, complete finish.

The 2022 Volnay Village has a composed bouquet of dark berry fruit mixed with sous-bois, leaning a little towards Pommard in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, well-balanced with a keen thread of acidity and a bright finish. Delicious.

Coming from the two Poisots vineyards, not yet racked at all, and showing a touch of reduction. A fine even purple, an elegance of fruit as expected. Brisk red fruit with a little fresh orange note alongside, slightly backward.

The finest and most elegant red wines of the Côte de Beaune are grown in Volnay, a village which might be twinned with Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, for the high active chalk content in the soil and comparatively low clay content. Whereas in earlier times Volnay was made in a particularly light, early drinking style, these days there are many producers making wines which age extremely well.
