Description

This hails from the Petit Maupertuis sector of the Clos, in its south-west corner, with Grands Echézeaux on the other side of the wall. This tends to be quite fine-boned and Carel likes to use a lot of lees to reduce the note of torrefaction that can sometimes appear. Very stylish and quite sculpted for a Clos de Vougeot.

The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a straightforward bouquet that needs to muster more complexity to match the previous superlative vintage. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry with fine structure, a solid Clos Vougeot with plenty of substance. However, I am seeking a bit more finesse to come through on the finish that may well ultimately develop.

A dense bright and complete purple. Stands up quite forthright fashion on the nose. Very much primary fruit, good acidity, a few tannins, a sound and even quite juicy Clos Vougeot through the middle. Have patience for the detail.
