2022 Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard, Burgundy

Description

Caroline is replanting around half her vines here. The vines are ploughed by horse and Caroline uses indigenous yeasts. The nose shows ripe orchard fruit, tropical notes and subtle toast. The palate offers up an explosion of tropical fruit with near perfect balance. This is full bodied, with invigorating acidity. It finishes strong with impeccable concentration.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 93-95/100

Pale lemon, showing significant weight of fruit on the nose, without the detail. A delightful citrus note helps to excite the palate, before a raft of white fruit, then a riper finish, just a little honeyed, but still featuring all the necessary freshness. A fine long punchy finish.

The 2022 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has an almost clinical bouquet with more penetration than the Criots served alongside. The medium-bodied palate has fine tension, but there is a real delicacy about this Bâtard with a very persistent, controlled finish and hints of white peach on the aftertaste. Wonderful.
