Description

This is one of Corton’s most cerebral and elegant sites. The eight-year-old vines add a sense of weightlessness and harmony. Fifty percent whole-bunch this year emphasises the floral perfume and ethereal feel of this wine. Corton is rarely so fine as this. Creamy red-black fruit and layered, chalky tannins give a graceful, refined wine.

100% whole bunch vinification. A bright deep purple. The bouquet suggests dark fruit but is rather more backward. Tightly wound, salty as well as peppery, a mix of dark berries, tannins which currently come across as a little dry. Not completely coherent today, but may prove to be better than this rating.

The 2022 Co “ton Cl’s du Roi G “and ”ru, 90% whole clusters that went through malo in June, has an expressive bouquet with redcurrant, black cherries, touches of damp forest floor and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and bright black fruit, very well balanced with a crunchy texture. There’s impressive salinity on the finish that lingers in the mouth. Classic in style, this is an excellent Corton Clos du Roi.
