2022 Chablis, L'Homme Mort, Vieilles Vignes, 1er Cru, Le Domaine d'Henri, Burgundy

Description

The grapes for the 2022 Chablis, L'Homme Mort, Vieilles Vignes, 1er Cru, by Le Domaine d'Henri, come from vines approximately 50 years old. The soil is chalkier, and the wines consequently display more minerality than most Fourchaume. This was aged mostly in tank but with some foudredemi-muids, and small barrels. It is austere, tight, and mineral, with an iodine finish. The nose has a lovely lemongrass character, along with the classic Fourchaume lavender.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 90-93/100

Mid lemon yellow. More fruit showing on the nose, and a wealth on the palate, some yellow plum notes, certainly much rounder yet with enough minerality behind. The longest of the three to date. From foudre 2019) where it will stay until January. The oak is definitely present, but the wine is very present behind and certainly develops well with energy lightly topped with coconut. In demi-muid 2015 Stockinger) there is again the oxidative oak thing. Much too marked on the palate alas. Scored on the assumption that the last will be managed.

About this wine

Fourchaume

Fourchaume

Winemaking in La Fourchaume, a prestigious Premier Cru vineyard in Chablis, involves meticulous processes to capture the essence of its terroir. The southeast-facing slope ensures optimal sun exposure for the Chardonnay grapes. The Kimmeridgian limestone soils with fossils contribute distinct mineral flavours. Stainless steel fermentation preserves freshness, while ageing highlights the grape's natural attributes.
