2022 Charlemagne, Grand Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie, Burgundy

The 2022 Charlemagne Grand Cru now comes from two parcels in Pernand and Aloxe-Corton. It has quite a perfumed nose with white peach and light dried honey scents, though it needs a little more mineralité and tension, a little smudged compared to the previous vintage. The well-balanced palate is rich and generous, with a honeyed texture, though its acidity balances it. Plenty of tropical fruit joins the party on the finish. Fine.

Drink 2026 - 2045

Picked on the 2nd September Le Charlemagne) and 6th September En Charlemagne). A fine bright full lemon yellow. The nose is very complete, not especially mineral, but with a fine suggestion of density which materialises on the palate, plus an excellent integrated acidity at the back. Now the stones with their traditional lemon rinse come into play, without forgetting the flesh of the white fruit. Very promising.
