Cask sample. Very perfumed on the nose (or was that the person who just walked past me)? Really love the elegant palate here. Not at all extracted but effortless and refined. Fine tannin, could enjoy this young but it will get better and better.

Fresh mid purple. This also has a fresher quality to the fruit, lively strawberry, I thought of some whole bunches but they were not used. Perhaps not quite the length here of the best in the stable. A little austerity at the back within the context of this vintage. 13.2% alcohol.

The 2022 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is quite reticent on the nose at first, though well-defined, slightly more earthy than the Village Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, mulberry, raspberry, marmalade and a touch of Chinese 5-spice towards its fleshy finish. Drink over the next decade.
