Guillaume’s parcel is just beneath the famous Dominode vineyard, on relatively deep clay soil that holds water well in dry years. There is a distinctive character to this wine; it’s plumper than the other Premiers Crus, with more density and power but still in Guillaume’s restrained style. This will require a little more patience, but it has huge promise.

The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Nanbartons 1er Cru comes from deep clay soils with a sunnier exposure than the Domaine's other cuvées, raised in 500-liter barrels. This is the most fruit-driven Savigny from the Domaine, with luscious red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, well-defined and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins on the entry that counterbalance the richness of this cuvée. It is quite saline and probably needs a few months to cohere fully. There is lots of potential here, though afford it three years in bottle.
