This Beaune is from two parcels totalling a hectare and averaging 40 years of age. This is surprisingly open and should drink well young. The nose has a beautiful perfume of blue fruit, mint and clove. Dense, rich cherry fruit fills the mid-palate, coating the mouth with juicy tannins.

Jasper Morris MW 89-92/100

A fine bright purple, but not the deepest. Quite a refined gentle pinot, with some energy but a mite drier at the back, perhaps from the oak. Nonetheless, the Clos du Roi has come through the hot dry season very well for a site that fears such conditions. Quite a long aftertaste.
