2021 Chambolle-Musigny, Les Amoureuses, 1er Cru, Domaine Bertheau, Burgundy

There are only three barrels of the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, another pretty, perfumed wine from Bertheau. Wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, orange zest, and rose petals, it's medium-bodied, soft, and sensual. It has a bright core of fruit, almost imperceptible tannins, and a broad, saline finish.

As is typically the case, this is the spiciest wine in the range, with its combination of fennel, exotic tea, and sandalwood hints adding nuance to the essence of red currant and violet scents. The lacy and strikingly textured medium-weight flavours exude class and grace on the generous yet precise and stony finish that is less obviously austere. Lovely and understated, this wine could be approached after only 3 to 4 years of keeping.
