The 2021 Clos du Noyer is fresh and precise and sports an athletic finish. It has depth and substance and a fine texture. Compared with the richer, riper 2020, it has a vibrant lift and freshness; there's a nervousness about this wine compared to the estate's main Gabare cuvee, which is more relaxed in its personality. The Grosbois brothers put this down to the vines going straight into the yellow limestone for this plot, which provides an edgy, chalky tannic character.

Chinon

Chinon is an important Cabernet Franc appellation that, at around 2,500 hectares, represents a slightly larger zone than its neighbour Bourgueil. Part of the appellation possesses light, sandy gravel soils to give an easy drinking style, while the remainder is blessed with a tuffeau subsoil from which the wines draw a finer structure and longevity. Neither style approaches the fullness of Bourgueil.
